Meet Harlem

Harlem is an outgoing pooch! She's one of our sweet deaf pooches here at the shelter, and she'll need a little help and patience learning some hand signs. Harlem is a happy girl who loves to get attention; her tail will be wagging whenever she is with you! Harlem would do best in a home with no other dogs and no cats.

Deaf dogs are trainable!
Just like other dogs, deaf dogs learn hand commands and tricks. While they will never have the same recall skills as a hearing dog, they are just as trainable and obedient and make great pets.Deafness is often found in all white dogs. It seems that hearing cells originate from the same cell family as pigment producing cells. Thus, the same deficiency that causes a lack of pigment may also reduce the dog's hearing. I'm a naturally playful, curious, and trusting canine. Take me for a big walk every day; give me something to do. After my job's done, I'll curl up in front of the fire with you in the evenings. I'm a dog on a mission to please you and myself.
